Feeding Folk is a project initiated by The Fatima Tubman Foundation to feed the homeless of London over five days of Ramadan. TFTF was founded by Muneera, one half of Poetic Pilgrimage. She was joined in the streets of Victoria by her partner Sukina as well as by three brothers of a new volunteer organisation called Peace Network.
Peace Network was formed as an urgent response to the London riots and was the result of a few meetings held by concerned brothers within our community. It includes prominent UK Imams, youth workers, artists and we hope YOU! Peace Network is available to help charities and indivuals in need and can be contacted via thepeacenetwork@gmail.com
We spoke with a few of the homeless people and discovered communities supporting each other through their difficult times. In the video you will see Abdullah, a Spanish Muslim convert and Paul aka Papa Smurf. What was most beautiful was their amazing strength of faith, humility and excellent character. When one of the homeless men we gave food to said “this is the best food I’ve had all year”, I knew to take this literally.
Most people want to do some good in their communities. Most people want to help. Sometimes we fill ourselves with excuses or don’t know of an effective way to help or think our efforts won’t make a difference. We decided to do something, no matter how small, and see it through.
