Tawheed Is Unity began in 2006 as the brain child of Ayman Raze as an alternative clothing line for Muslims living in the West. Being involved with Hip Hop since the mid 90′s, Ayman recognised the fact that young Muslims are steadily developing their own culture distinct from that of their parents and traditions. Being aware of the fact that whether you listen to Hip Hop or not, this is the Hip Hop generation and fashion is a key emphasis of the sub-culture. Ayman set about developing designs that would both represent Islam and the society and culture we are in.
The brand quickly caught a lot of attention and set itself apart by using strong, distinct symbols of Islam in Hip Hop inspired boldness. Although designed with young Muslims in mind, many non-Muslims who recognised and appreciated the message of tawheed also made purchases. Tawheed Is Unity was born.
The word ‘tawheed’ means oneness of God. It is through this belief that mankind will find unity. The extended index finger of the right hand is a symbol of tawheed which in itself is a simple, clear declaration of faith. We hope to make Tawheed Is Unity the first place that Muslims living in the West go to for their conscious clothing.
We also want to use this website to document the “Muslim Experience” in the West. In a world where too often we are told what to think, Tawheed Is Unity aims to let you know what Muslims are actually thinking. Through writing, music, film, design and photography we hope to display the many faces of Islam using modern techniques and in a language that is accesible to all.
Tawheed Is Unity is a collaborative effort. If you have any talents which you think we could benefit from such as great photoshop, social media or writing skills then please get in touch.
